what canned food is best for dogs with early kidney problems?
Thank you for your question! Our general recommendations for kidney disease for dogs include Freeze Dried Kidney Treats and Chill Freeze Dried Formula (rehydrated with water). You can also substitute Chill canned formula for the freeze dried formula, but we feel the freeze dried formula is a superior product.

My Border Collie mix is 15. Her vital organs are fine for her age. She has had a mild case of Lyme disease for 7 yrs. (we still give her Bravecto) and has arthritis in her hindquarters. She was recently diagnosed with DLE after having a lesion on her nose. Both her eyes have “matter” running out of them plus she sneezes quite often. Our vet has prescribed Trazadone, 100mg at bedtime & 10mg of Prednisone 2x daily. They have helped w/ her constant pacing, agitation & ability to climb up & down stairs. (She HAD been on Deramax for a # of yrs.) She pants excessively at times (age related) in our 67degree home. The vet has her eating WD because she was suffering from diarrhea. She takes 1-03 Omega softgel in the A.M. & Probiotics w/ meals as well as NUPRO Silver. Also, recently, Niacinamide (750mg.) & Vit. E (60iu) for her immune system, daily. Twice a day she takes Pet Naturals Calming formula which contains Vit.B(100mg, L-Theanine(30mg) & Colostrum Calming Complex, Biopeptide Blend(15mg). Once a month she takes a Sentinel flavor tab. Is their any Herbal Therapy which might make her more comfortable in her older age?
Thank you for your question and your interest in Chinese Medicine! Yes, there are herbs that can help keep your senior dog comfortable. There are herbs for arthritis, skin conditions, and general soreness. There are also herbs for allergies. Since there are hundreds of herbal formulas, we require an authorization from your vet stating the herbal formula they recommend for your pet. Many herbals will help, but there is usually one herb or combination of herbs that helps your pet the best. You can request an authorization from your vet here.
i have a dog with soft tissue sarcoma currently on holistic meds. what food would be best?
Thank you for your question! I'm sorry to hear your dog is struggling with soft tissue sarcoma. For cancer, Eastern Food Therapy (a branch of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) philosophy typically recommend a blood-building diet. We offer a canned blood-building dog food made by PET | TAO called Zing, and we also offer an immune boosting supplement called Complement Immune. Also, you can homecook a blood building dog food using the recipe here: https://pettao.com/blood-building-dog-food-recipe/. You can read articles about Complement Immune and the mushrooms in it here: https://pettao.com/?s=complement+immune . To learn more about food energetics and Eastern Food Therapy, go here: https://pettao.com/?s=food+energetics. There also may be herbal formulas appropriate for your situation. These herbs require a veterinary authorization from your vet in order to purchase. To request an authorization from your vet, go here: https://tcvmpet.com/pages/get-an-authorization. It's always good to discuss all products with your veterinarian to make sure they are appropriate for your pet's case.
Hello! My dog has congestive heart failure. Which of your canned foods would you recommend?
Thank you for your question! We're sorry to hear your dog is struggling with heart issues. Typically, cooling energetics help support pets with heart conditions, along with feeding small bits of beef heart (3-5 pieces per day). We offer cooling canned and freeze dried dog foods along with Beef Heart Treats. Canned Chill is currently out of stock, but should be back in stock in a few weeks. There may be herbal formulas appropriate for your situation as well, which you could explore under the direction of a TCVM vet. We require veterinary authorization for herbal purchases on our site, but no authorization is required for food therapy purchases. These food therapy philosophies are based on the Five-Element Theory of Chinese Medicine and the theory of food energetics. You can learn more about these philosophies here: https://pettao.com/food-energetics/ . Please let us know if we can help you in any way!
