The cooling ingredients help bring dogs back into balance.

Here's how each main ingredient works from a TCVM Perspective:

  • Turkey: Turkey is energetically cooling. It is a lean source of protein that supports muscle strength and provides essential amino acids. In TCVM, it is believed to tonify Qi and Blood, helping to fortify the body's energy reserves.
  • Beef: Beef is energetically neutral and strengthens the spleen and stomach meridians. It provides a rich source of Qi and Blood, supporting the body's overall energy levels and immune function.
  • Catfish: Catfish is energetically cooling and benefits the kidney and bladder meridians. It supports detoxification and helps clear excess heat from the body, promoting a healthy balance.
  • Carrots: Carrots are also energetically neutral in TCVM. They are rich in beta-carotene, vitamins, and minerals, which support overall health and vitality. Carrots are believed to benefit the Spleen and Stomach meridians, aiding digestion and promoting Qi's smooth flow.
  • Green beans: Green beans are energetically neutral and support the spleen and kidney meridians. They aid digestion and fluid metabolism, helping to eliminate dampness and improve nutrient absorption.
  • Barley: Barley is cooling and benefits the spleen and stomach meridians. It supports digestion and helps reduce heat and inflammation, promoting overall balance in the body.
  • Celery: Celery is cooling and benefits the stomach and bladder meridians. It helps clear heat from the body and supports detoxification, reducing inflammation and promoting digestion.
  • Cucumber: Cucumber is energetically cooling and supports the stomach and lung meridians. It helps dispel excess heat, promotes hydration, and supports healthy skin and coat.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Hello. Can this be used as a topper to my dog's regular food in the evening and still be effective? He's been waking up extremely early, barking, seems agitated and anxious, eating grass during the day- and our vet recommended some yin supporting foods. He's 62 lbs, so I can't afford to feed him 4 cans a day every day, but I'm hoping even topping off his food with this could help. Thanks!

    Thank you for your question!

Using cooling foods as a topper can help, but the best thing to do is feed an entirely cooling diet. Here's another option that could save you some money - making the food at home in a crock pot: https://pettao.com/energetically-cooling-dog-food-recipe/. PET | TAO also offers more recipes here

Additionally, we just wrote a blog post about other natural solutions for anxiety: https://tcvmpet.com/blogs/news/is-your-pet-afraid-of-fireworks

  • My dog has elevated urine protein creatinine ratios....5.7. She has been on benazapril now for 6 weeks and it has not gone down. Slightly low albumin as well. Vet said RX diet for low protein and low fat for renal disease. Can you tell me if your food would be in this category. What are the ingredients and nutritional value? She is also sensitive to chicken products.

    Thank you for your question!

While PET | TAO Chill is not low fat, some veterinarians trained in Eastern medicine recommend cooling diets for pets with kidney issues. Also, we recommend kidney treats for kidney issues. This diet doesn't include chicken.

The ingredients are as follows: Turkey, Beef, Catfish, Carrots, Green Beans, Barley, Celery, Cucumber, Broccoli, Eggs, Spinach, Flax Seed, Honey, Salt, Sesame Oil, DiCalcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin E Supplement, Manganese Methionine, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Lysine, Ethylenediamine Dihydroiodide (source of Iodine), Vitamin D Supplement.

The nutritional analysis is as follows:
    Crude Protein (min).......8%
    Crude Fat (min).............5%
    Crude Fiber (max).........1%
    Moisture (max)............78%

Also, you can make this recipe at home in a slow-cooker, and then use lower-fat meats of your choosing. You can find the recipe here: https://pettao.com/energetically-cooling-dog-food-recipe/

  • Can you get this food on auto delivery? Also if you purchase more can you get free shipping? My dog likes your food and I don’t mind the cost of the food it’s the S&H

Thank you for your question! We are considering implementing auto-ship but we don't have it set up yet. I appreciate your feedback as we work towards setting this up! You can get free shipping if you spend $99 or more.

  • Do you have a stockist in Australia? How do I get some chill and any other products for Acute Kidney disease for cats for my pet 9yo Siamese cat, Max???

Hi there, thank you for your question! We are currently working on expanding our shipping internationally! But, we don't currently have a cat food. PET | TAO does offer homecooked recipes for cats on their blog: https://pettao.com/pet-food-recipes/. There is a version of Chill for cats on that page! If you're interested in treats or supplements for cats, please fill out our contact form and provide your address and we'll get you a shipping estimate and see what ingredients are allowed to be imported.

  • can this be fed to cats? with kidney disease

Thank you for your question! PET | TAO's dog foods aren't formulated for the nutrient needs of cats, so we don't recommend feeding them to cats. A tiny bit as a treat won't hurt, but they aren't sufficient to meet the nutrient needs of cats. Unfortunately, PET | TAO discontinued their cat food awhile back due to lack of sales. But, we have a solution for you, if you have the time to take it on! PET | TAO created home-cooked recipes for cats on their blog. These recipes are homecooked versions of the commercial cat products they used to offer, and there are additional recipes as well (feline versions of the PET | TAO dog recipes). Please check them out and see if they interest you: https://pettao.com/pet-food-recipes/
PET | TAO also has a recipe to aid feline kidney issues here: https://pettao.com/cats-with-kidney-disease/
Also, we recommend feeding PET | TAO's Freeze Dried Kidney Dog and Cat treats to support the kidneys based on the 5-Element Theory of Chinese Medicine.

  • 2 1/2 year old male Samoyed diagnosed with Bladder stones, open bladder surgery required, stones tested in Minnesota, results were Calcium Oxalates. Now the hunt for a better dog food attempting to never have bladder stone surgery again. He has been on excellent dog food since birth but even with the protein at 26%, Calcium at 1.4% and phosphorus at 1.0% this has still occurred. He is a fussy water drinker. Bowls of water everywhere, we constantly try to even bring bowls to him to get him to drink. He is stubborn male Samoyed, will do when he is ready. He has been healthy up until Sept 2019. We know we have a long battle ahead with kidney/bladder due to this diagnosis.

Thanks for your question! Many dogs with bladder and kidney issues have success consuming PET | TAO Soothe Bladder Supplement, PET | TAO Freeze Dried Beef Kidney Treats, and a diet that is overall energetically cooling, such as PET | TAO Chill.

Chill comes in both canned and freeze dried formulas. For your situation, we recommend the freeze dried version, as there is some speculation that lack of a synthetic vitamin/mineral premix may support the bladder.

PET | TAO freeze dried foods don't have a synthetic vitamin/mineral premix, but the canned foods do. The freeze dried foods are still complete and balanced, but the vitamins and minerals come from whole food ingredients rather than synthetic ingredients.

You may also want to check with your vet to see if they think Crystal Stone Formula is a good idea for your dog. It's an Eastern Herbal designed to help with Bladder Stones.

  • is this the best for a dog w cushings symptoms? canned chill?

Hi there! Our TCVM veterinarians have very good results with energetically cooling diets and Cushing's symptom management. This formula is a great choice, and also comes in a freeze dried version.

  • my dog has most of the things on the chill list incl panting, pacing, hunger at all times, agitation w the pacing, and fast breathing. she has a heart murmur, not sure if chill would help w that but my vet just said w her rising liver numbers that it could be cushings and suggested a formula for that. i had been giving my dog what i thought was a good diet, grains on the cool list, meat, veggies etc but her skin got bad and her stomach ballooned. she's been on dr martys freeze-dried raw for 10 wks now but last week she left some of her food in the bowl. UNHEARD of for this foodie. I took it as a message to me since it happened more than once. time to change her food. her skin tho I must say, (did the raw heal that?) did clear up completely and her fur is nice and soft; her eruptions have stopped. would u happen to know if there's any food that addresses a heart murmur? or just go w the chill for now and see how it goes? thanks.

    Thank you for your question!

You are correct, pet owners often find cooling formulas support their dogs with the symptoms you mentioned!

Also, according to the Five-Element theory of Chinese Medicine, Freeze Dried Heart Treats can support the heart as well. You can learn more about that here: https://tcvmpet.com/collections/treats/products/pet-tao-freeze-dried-beef-heart?variant=14649349439537

I hope your dog is feeling better soon, and thanks for supporting TCVM!

Meets our needs

Scarlet runs hot, so this is an ideal food for her. Eli has digestive problems, and this is gentle on his system. We all (including me) get regular acupuncture, so we know its benefits, and we’re grateful that Pet Tao is formulated according to principles of Chinese medicine. The dogs go crazy for the dried spleen treats.

The Pups Love It!

My Golden pups love it! I was looking for a healthy, canned wet food that I could feed my Golden Retrievers in the mornings. I asked our TCVM vet for a recommendation for both pups after she did their first exams. She knows I'm very picky about the food I give my dogs - have been for ages - so when she suggested this Chill Solution, I was thrilled. It's easy to spread on their lick mats, which is what I wanted. My female gets anxious easily, especially when my male is not around (he's been staying at their breeder's home since she was spayed 11 days ago), so the lick mat with this food on it (instead of peanut butter) has been a perfect way to help her relax.

Game Changer!

Our son Winston is 5 years old and newly diagnosed with Atypical Cushings. We were advised by our amazing vet that he requires cold proteins. After research and guidance from her, we found this amazing company and since purchased other recommended supplements. I am happy he isn’t on any pharmaceutical drugs. We’re seeing big changes. Food is medicine.
