AAFCO Statement

Harmony Beef is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for "All Life Stages."

TCVM Physical Conditions Harmony Beef Supports

In TCVM, food is medicine. Harmony Beef is formulated around energetically neutral ingredients that nourish Qi and Blood without pushing the body toward excess Heat or Cold. It is ideal as a maintenance formula for balanced dogs and as a stabilizing foundation diet for dogs recovering from energetic imbalance.

  • Qi and Blood deficiency: Beef, beef heart, and beef liver are classical Qi and Blood tonics in TCVM; energetically neutral and richly nourishing, they support overall vitality, stamina, and the body's capacity to produce and circulate Qi and Blood
  • Spleen and Stomach weakness: White potato, carrots, and beef are neutral, sweet ingredients that tonify Spleen Qi and support the Spleen and Stomach's role in transforming food into usable energy; ideal for dogs with poor digestion, loose stools, or poor nutrient absorption
  • Liver Blood deficiency: Beef liver directly nourishes the Liver in TCVM through the "Like Treats Like" principle; supports healthy connective tissue, vision, and coat quality by nourishing Liver Blood and Yin
  • Kidney Qi and Jing support: Beef kidney nourishes the Kidney organ system directly; in TCVM, the Kidneys govern aging, bone health, and reproductive vitality; including kidney meat supports long-term constitutional strength and Jing preservation
  • Excess Heat conditions: Turkey and broccoli are energetically cooling, helping to gently clear excess Heat without over-cooling; useful for dogs with mild Heat signs such as warm skin, restlessness, or inflammation who still need a neutral maintenance diet
  • Immune and detoxification support: Button mushrooms, broccoli, and spinach support Wei Qi (defensive immune energy) and assist the Liver's role in smooth Qi flow and detoxification; sardines and flaxseed provide Yin-nourishing omega-3 fatty acids that reduce inflammation

TCVM Emotional Conditions Harmony Beef Supports

In Five Element Theory, emotional well-being is directly connected to the health of the organ systems. A diet that nourishes Qi, Blood, and the Spleen, Liver, and Heart simultaneously supports emotional stability and groundedness. Harmony Beef's neutral, nourishing ingredient profile addresses several emotional patterns rooted in constitutional deficiency.

  • Anxiety and restlessness from Blood deficiency: In TCVM, the Heart stores the Shen (spirit) and relies on Heart Blood to anchor it; Blood-deficient dogs may present as anxious, unsettled, or easily startled; beef and beef heart are direct Heart and Blood tonics that support Shen stability
  • Worry and digestive anxiety from Spleen Qi deficiency: The Spleen governs the emotion of worry and overthinking in the Earth Element; a diet of neutral, Spleen-tonifying foods like beef, white potato, carrots, and eggs strengthens the Earth Element and supports emotional groundedness in anxious or food-obsessed dogs
  • Irritability and frustration from Liver Blood deficiency: When Liver Blood is insufficient, the Wood Element becomes brittle; dogs may become reactive, irritable, or noise-sensitive; beef liver nourishes Liver Blood directly, helping to soften and stabilize the Wood Element's emotional expression
  • Low energy and apathy from Qi deficiency: Dogs with Qi deficiency may present as lethargic, unmotivated, or emotionally flat; the energetically neutral, Qi-building profile of Harmony Beef supports gradual restoration of vitality and engagement without overstimulating the system

Western Physical Conditions Harmony Beef Supports

From a Western nutritional perspective, Harmony Beef delivers a comprehensive whole-food nutrient profile that supports specific physiological systems in dogs across all life stages.

  • Muscle development and maintenance: Beef, turkey, chicken gizzards, and eggs provide a complete amino acid profile for muscle synthesis, tissue repair, and lean body mass maintenance; especially important for active, growing, or senior dogs
  • Anemia and red blood cell production: Beef liver and beef heart are concentrated sources of heme iron, vitamin B12, folate, and riboflavin, all essential for hemoglobin synthesis and healthy red blood cell production
  • Cardiovascular health: Sardines, catfish, and flaxseed provide omega-3 fatty acids (EPA, DHA, and ALA) that reduce systemic inflammation, support healthy cardiac muscle function, and promote healthy triglyceride levels
  • Immune function: Broccoli, spinach, carrots, and eggs provide vitamins C, A, E, and K alongside antioxidant compounds (beta-carotene, sulforaphane, lutein) that support immune cell activity, mucosal immunity, and oxidative stress defense
  • Digestive health: Whole-food fiber from carrots, broccoli, celery, and spinach supports healthy gut motility and beneficial microbiome diversity; white potato provides easily digestible complex carbohydrates for sustained energy without digestive burden
  • Skin, coat, and connective tissue: Flaxseed, sardines, olive oil, beef liver, and eggs provide omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, biotin, and vitamin A to support skin barrier integrity, coat quality, and collagen synthesis
  • Bone and joint health: Calcium carbonate, manganese, and vitamin D3 (from supplementation and sardines) support bone density and joint integrity; beef kidney and organ meats contribute natural glucosamine precursors

Main Ingredients: Eastern and Western Perspectives

Each main ingredient in Harmony Beef was selected for its dual role in supporting both energetic balance and complete Western nutrition.

  • Beef Kidney: Nourishes Kidney Qi and Jing directly; supports long-term constitutional vitality and bone health in TCVM. Concentrated source of B12, riboflavin, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids; supports renal health and metabolic function
  • White Potato: Energetically neutral; tonifies Spleen Qi and provides sustained, digestible energy without causing Heat or Cold imbalance. Complex carbohydrate source providing vitamin C, B6, potassium, and manganese for nervous system and muscle function
  • Carrots: Energetically neutral; benefits the Spleen and Stomach meridians, aids digestion, and promotes smooth Qi flow. Rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A precursor), fiber, and vitamin C for vision, skin health, immune function, and digestive support
  • Broccoli: Energetically cooling; clears excess Heat and supports Liver detoxification; beneficial for Heat-prone or inflamed dogs. Rich in vitamin K, vitamin C, folate, fiber, and sulforaphane for immune support, bone health, and antioxidant defense
  • Eggs: Energetically neutral; nourishes Qi, Blood, and Yin; supports overall vitality and coat health. Complete protein with all essential amino acids; rich in B12, riboflavin, choline, and biotin for energy metabolism, brain function, and skin health
  • Sardines and Catfish: Energetically neutral to warming; nourish Qi and Blood; support Kidney Yang mildly. Excellent sources of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids for anti-inflammatory support, cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and coat quality
  • Flaxseed: Energetically cooling; supports Yin and moistens dryness; useful in formulas for dogs with dry coat or mild inflammatory tendencies. Rich in ALA omega-3 fatty acids, lignans, and fiber for immune modulation, skin health, and digestive support
  • Button Mushrooms: Energetically neutral; tonify Spleen Qi and support Wei Qi (defensive immune energy). Provide beta-glucans, B vitamins, selenium, and ergothioneine for immune modulation and antioxidant support

The Philosophy Behind PET | TAO Harmony Beef

PET | TAO Harmony Beef is built on the belief that food is the most fundamental medicine. In TCVM, every ingredient carries energetic properties (temperature, flavor, and organ affinity) that influence the body's internal balance. Western nutritional science adds a second lens, identifying the specific proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals that support cellular-level physiological function. Harmony Beef deliberately integrates both frameworks: each ingredient is selected not only for its nutrient density but also for its energetic contribution to the whole formula.

The result is a diet centered on energetically neutral ingredients that nourish without pushing the body toward excess. Beef, eggs, white potato, and carrots form a stabilizing foundation that supports Spleen and Stomach function, Qi production, and Blood nourishment. Organ meats (heart, liver, and kidney) apply the "Like Treats Like" principle to directly nourish the organ systems they represent. Cooling ingredients like turkey and broccoli balance the formula for dogs with mild Heat tendencies, while sardines, catfish, and flaxseed provide anti-inflammatory omega-3 support. The formula is designed to maintain balance in healthy dogs and gently restore it in dogs with mild constitutional imbalance.

All PET | TAO products are formulated with natural ingredients specifically chosen to support your pet's energetic balance. It is always better to feed for a purpose.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • what canned food is best for dogs with early kidney problems?

Thank you for your question! Our general recommendations for kidney disease for dogs include Freeze Dried Kidney Treats and Chill Freeze Dried Formula (rehydrated with water). You can also substitute Chill canned formula for the freeze dried formula, but we feel the freeze dried formula is a superior product.

To learn more about the reasons behind these recommendations, check out these articles: https://pettao.com/pet-treats/ and https://pettao.com/eastern-food-therapy-for-pets-made-easy-pet-tao/ and  https://pettao.com/qr-beef-kidney/

  • My Border Collie mix is 15. Her vital organs are fine for her age. She has had a mild case of Lyme disease for 7 yrs. (we still give her Bravecto) and has arthritis in her hindquarters. She was recently diagnosed with DLE after having a lesion on her nose. Both her eyes have “matter” running out of them plus she sneezes quite often. Our vet has prescribed Trazadone, 100mg at bedtime & 10mg of Prednisone 2x daily. They have helped w/ her constant pacing, agitation & ability to climb up & down stairs. (She HAD been on Deramax for a # of yrs.) She pants excessively at times (age related) in our 67degree home. The vet has her eating WD because she was suffering from diarrhea. She takes 1-03 Omega softgel in the A.M. & Probiotics w/ meals as well as NUPRO Silver. Also, recently, Niacinamide (750mg.) & Vit. E (60iu) for her immune system, daily. Twice a day she takes Pet Naturals Calming formula which contains Vit.B(100mg, L-Theanine(30mg) & Colostrum Calming Complex, Biopeptide Blend(15mg). Once a month she takes a Sentinel flavor tab. Is their any Herbal Therapy which might make her more comfortable in her older age?

Thank you for your question and your interest in Chinese Medicine! Yes, there are herbs that can help keep your senior dog comfortable. There are herbs for arthritis, skin conditions, and general soreness. There are also herbs for allergies. Since there are hundreds of herbal formulas, we require an authorization from your vet stating the herbal formula they recommend for your pet. Many herbals will help, but there is usually one herb or combination of herbs that helps your pet the best. You can request an authorization from your vet here.

  • i have a dog with soft tissue sarcoma currently on holistic meds. what food would be best?

Thank you for your question! I'm sorry to hear your dog is struggling with soft tissue sarcoma. For cancer, Eastern Food Therapy (a branch of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) philosophy typically recommend a blood-building diet. We offer a canned blood-building dog food made by PET | TAO called Zing, and we also offer an immune boosting supplement called Complement Immune. Also, you can homecook a blood building dog food using the recipe here: https://pettao.com/blood-building-dog-food-recipe/. You can read articles about Complement Immune and the mushrooms in it here: https://pettao.com/?s=complement+immune . To learn more about food energetics and Eastern Food Therapy, go here: https://pettao.com/?s=food+energetics. There also may be herbal formulas appropriate for your situation. These herbs require a veterinary authorization from your vet in order to purchase. To request an authorization from your vet, go here: https://tcvmpet.com/pages/get-an-authorization. It's always good to discuss all products with your veterinarian to make sure they are appropriate for your pet's case.

  • Hello! My dog has congestive heart failure. Which of your canned foods would you recommend?

Thank you for your question! We're sorry to hear your dog is struggling with heart issues. Typically, cooling energetics help support pets with heart conditions, along with feeding small bits of beef heart (3-5 pieces per day). We offer cooling canned and freeze dried dog foods along with Beef Heart Treats. Canned Chill is currently out of stock, but should be back in stock in a few weeks. There may be herbal formulas appropriate for your situation as well, which you could explore under the direction of a TCVM vet. We require veterinary authorization for herbal purchases on our site, but no authorization is required for food therapy purchases. These food therapy philosophies are based on the Five-Element Theory of Chinese Medicine and the theory of food energetics. You can learn more about these philosophies here: https://pettao.com/food-energetics/ . Please let us know if we can help you in any way!
