Ask a Question
  • Are there any negative interactions with dogs who have heart disease? Any negative interactions with other supplements?

Thank you for your question! The manufacturer, Jing Tang, doesn't list any contraindications or interactions for this herbal formula. However, please check with your vet who knows your pet's individual situation the best. They will be able to tell you for sure whether External Wind is the right herb for your pet's condition. To learn more about External Wind, you can check out this blog post.

  • Our GSD’s issue is similar to the yorkie’s above. We moved 2 years ago to a new state and started hiking in the woods. He’s gone into full blown allergy mode and prescribed Exteral Wind. Is this the right TVM or should it have been Internal Wind or another formula? He’s itching terribly, biting holes in spots!!

Thank you for your question! External Wind is the most commonly recommended herb for skin allergies in dogs, cats, and horses. There are other herbs that may help with skin itching due to different deficiencies pets can experience. For example, Damp Heat Skin helps with a TCVM diagnosis of Damp Heat, and Wind Toxin helps with a TCVM diagnosis of Wind Heat. If your vet recommended External Wind, it's likely the right herb for your pet's TCVM diagnosis. The TCVM diagnosis is specific to your pet's characteristics and is based on tongue and pulse.

If you're interested in adding to your pet's anti-allergy regimen, food therapy (diet, treats, and supplements) works very well in conjunction with herbs. You may be interested in getting your TCVM vet's recommendation for the best food for your pet's TCVM diagnosis.

In addition, we have a free ebook download about dog allergies. Often, a cooling diet can support dogs with itchy skin. We also recommend Complement Immune mushroom supplement to support the immune system's response to allergens. Salmon or Lung treats can help too!

Also, here's a link for a vinegar rinse you can do at home to help your dog:

  • Hello! My both yorkies developed Alergies to everything outside etc. I have two yorkies both never been sick, I keep them on my cooked diet. I want to purchase this holistic medicine for them. jing tang concentrated external wind Do you know the dosage i have to give them they weight 5-7 lbs.

Thank you for your question! External Wind Concentrated 0.5g Capsules #100 are formulated to Clear External Wind, detoxify, alleviate itching, cool and activate Blood in dogs and cats. There are other herbal formulas or combinations of herbal formulas that may be appropriate, however. We recommend checking with your vet to see what your pets' TCVM diagnosis is. This will help your vet choose the correct herbal formula and dose. The typical dose in concentrated capsules is: one 0.5g capsule per 20 to 40 lb of body weight twice daily or one 0.2g capsule for small dog/cat (<10lbs) once a day. Vets may change the dose based on individual characteristics and symptoms. Also, your veterinarian's authorization is needed in order to purchase from us. You can request authorization here:

  • Why do I need a vet ok ? My holistic vet recommended this

Thanks for your question. The manufacturer, Jing Tang, requires us to keep a veterinary authorization on file for all Jing Tang Herbal product orders.

This is a great way to make sure our customers are purching the correct herb. There are hundreds of Chinese herbal formulas, and while many of them may help your pet, there is always one specific formula and specific dose that is best for your pet. Or, there is a combination of formulas that will help your pet the most. It's up to a veterinarian to determine this combination based on their training. Without this TCVM training, the incorrect herb or combination is often chosen

Since you already have a holistic vet, to purchase from us, you just need to fill out this form:

We use the form to contact your vet for approval.

If you have any other questions or if we can help you in any way, just let us know!

We tried everything to stop our dog's itching over the spring and summer. Then our vet said to try this. It reduced the itching more and more til finally it was gone. Then we ran out of it and the itching didn't get bad at first, but gradually got back to the former level. So, we got more Concentrated Wind and the itching died down. As we went thru the bottle, I decided that the weather was cooler, no more fleas, so I could stop giving it to her. But just like before, the itching started back up gradually. So now I'm getting more Concentrated Wind and will keep her on it at least until we get some hard freezes.
