QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Hi, what would the dose be for 6 year old cushings she’s 91 pounds

Thank you for your question! I'm so sorry to hear your dog has Cushing's disease!

The manufacturer's recommended dose range for Ophiopogon Formula Concentrated 0.5g Capsules #100 is one 0.5g capsule per 20 to 40 lb of body weight twice daily.

It's important to find out your vet's recommendation based on your pet's specific condition since the dosing range is quite large. Some vets recommend starting with a lower dose and increasing based on how your dog is doing. The length of time the bottle will last depends on the dose your vet recommends in that range.

We also require herbal authorization for all purchases, which assures us you're using the most effective herbal formula for your dog. In many cases, there are multiple different herbal formulas for one disease. To request authorization from your vet, click here: https://tcvmpet.com/pages/get-an-authorization.

  • Hello, what would be the dose to help treat a 12 year old 11.4# Yorkie for Atypical Cushings that is responsive to melatonin? Thank You!

Thank you for your question! The typical dose for this product is one 0.5g capsule per 20 to 40 lb of body weight twice daily. We recommend starting at the low end of the range. A better size capsule for a 11.4# dog may be concentrated 0.2g capsules #50. The dose for concentrated 0.2g capsules #50 is one 0.2g capsule for small dog/cat once a day <10lbs.

  • I have a 70lb pit mix that hasn’t been diagnosed with cushions but possible Atypical Cushions and I was able to start her on Ophiopogon. My regular vet suggested to start her at 2 capsules twice a day, however is it possible the Opiopogon could cause constipation? My girl would poo once in the morning and afternoon but since starting this medication she’s only went twice since Friday night. It is now Monday.

Hi there! Thank you for your question!

TCVM herbs are safe for pets, and there are no side effects other than some possible GI upset that will usually resolve on its own. There are no contraindications found for this herb as well.

However, we recommend you check with your vet since they know your pet's condition.
