Herbsmith Comfort Aches™: For Aches & Discomfort for Cats and Dogs 20 Tablets

Herbsmith Comfort Aches™: For Aches and Discomfort for Cats and Dogs

Some days hit harder - rough play, big adventures, or a slick zoom gone wrong. Comfort Aches is a fast-acting herbal blend that supports normal inflammation response and natural repair pathways, offering relief for dogs and cats without the side effects of long-term NSAID use. Use short-term after intense activity, intermittently during flare-ups, or daily for seniors and pets with ongoing joint discomfort. Available in powder and tablets.

Behind the Formula

In TCVM, normal everyday activity and exercise can lead to acute stasis or stagnation of Blood and Qi in the muscles, joints, and connective tissue. Blood stasis is the primary mechanism behind post-activity soreness, stiffness, and discomfort - when Blood stops moving freely through an area, Qi stagnates with it, and discomfort follows. Comfort Aches is a Blood-moving formula: its herbs invigorate Blood, dispel stasis, move Qi through the affected tissue, and support the body's natural repair of connective tissue and joints. When stasis is resolved, discomfort diminishes and function returns. Because this formula acts on the fundamental TCVM cause of activity-related discomfort rather than simply masking it, it works quickly and remains effective with both short-term and long-term use.

When to Use Comfort Aches

  • Overdoing it during play or activity: For the dogs who do not know when to quit - the ones who sprint, leap, wipe out, bounce back, and then show stiffness an hour later.
  • When flare-ups happen: Helps the body stay comfortable when occasional stiffness or soreness surfaces from activity, age, or weather shifts.
  • Quick-acting relief: Comfort Aches works quickly for those days when you can see your dog or cat is uncomfortable and needs help fast.
  • Stiff or achy joints: Suited for dogs who are slow to rise, hesitate on stairs, or get creaky after naps or chilly mornings.
  • Elderly or aging dogs starting to slow down: A gentle, daily layer of comfort to help older dogs move easier and maintain a better quality of life.

Comfort Aches vs. The Rest

Many comfort products rely on hemp or a single anti-inflammatory pathway. Comfort Aches combines multiple Blood-moving and Qi-moving herbs that support physical ease through more than one mechanism, so it fits naturally into daily routines as well as those off days when your dog clearly feels it. No sedatives, no stimulants - your pet will feel like themselves, just more comfortable.

Active Ingredients and Their Actions

  • San Qi (Notoginseng Root - Panax notoginseng): One of the most important Blood-moving herbs in TCVM; stops bleeding, transforms Blood stasis, and addresses discomfort from traumatic injuries and overexertion. San Qi is classified as sweet, slightly bitter, and warm - it simultaneously moves stagnant Blood and supports new Blood formation, making it uniquely suited to post-activity recovery where both stasis and tissue repair are needed. Notoginsenoside and ginsenoside constituents have well-documented anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and platelet-regulating activity, and have been studied for their role in supporting microcirculation in injured or overworked tissue.
  • Dang Gui (Angelica Tang Kuei - Angelica sinensis): Tonifies and invigorates Blood and addresses musculoskeletal discomfort; pairs with San Qi to both nourish Blood deficiency and move Blood stasis simultaneously. Where San Qi is the primary stasis-moving herb, Dang Gui provides the tonifying counterbalance that prevents over-dispersal. Ligustilide and phthalide constituents have documented antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and circulatory-supportive activity.
  • Ru Xiang (Frankincense - Boswellia carterii): Invigorates Blood, promotes movement of Qi, and addresses musculoskeletal discomfort and swelling; particularly effective for chronic Bi syndrome (joint obstruction from Blood and Qi stagnation) and for supporting connective tissue and joint integrity. Boswellic acid constituents - including AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid) - are among the most extensively documented natural inhibitors of the 5-lipoxygenase inflammatory pathway, directly supporting the body's normal inflammation response in joints and connective tissue.
  • Mo Yao (Myrrh - Commiphora myrrha): Invigorates Blood, dispels Blood stasis, supports tissue healing, and addresses discomfort; classically paired with Ru Xiang to enhance the Blood-moving and Qi-moving actions of both herbs. Mo Yao addresses both the stagnation and the healing phases of recovery. Sesquiterpene and terpenoid constituents have documented anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and wound-supportive activity.
  • Hong Hua (Carthamus Flower - Carthamus tinctorius): Strongly dispels Blood stasis, invigorates Blood, and addresses discomfort associated with stagnation in the channels and muscles. In TCVM, Hong Hua is used when Blood stasis is pronounced - it opens the channels and vessels and promotes free circulation through congested areas. Hydroxysafflor yellow A and carthamin constituents have documented anti-inflammatory and platelet-aggregation-inhibiting activity.
  • Huai Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root - Achyranthes bidentata): Invigorates Blood, expels Blood stasis, strengthens the tendons and bones, benefits the joints, and guides the actions of other herbs downward to the lower extremities - the legs, hips, and joints most commonly affected by activity-related stiffness. Also tonifies and nourishes the Liver and Kidney, supporting the structural tissues governed by those organs. Documented anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and connective-tissue-supportive activity.
  • Flaxseed (carrier - powder format): Serves as the powder carrier; also provides ALA omega-3s with mild anti-inflammatory activity to complement the herbal blend.

How to Use Comfort Aches

Sprinkle powder over every meal, mix into a small meatball or cottage cheese, or freeze with broth into cubes. Tablets can be given with meals or hidden in a treat. Give twice daily. Comfort Aches can be used three ways depending on your pet's needs:

  • Short-term use: For sudden stiffness after rough play or a hard session
  • Intermittent use: For 2-3 days following intense activity or flare-ups
  • Daily use: For seniors or pets with ongoing joint discomfort

Because it supports the body rather than overriding it, Comfort Aches is safe to use as needed or long-term - whichever keeps your pet most comfortable. For pets with ongoing joint issues, Comfort Aches pairs especially well with Sound Dog Viscosity for comprehensive short-term and long-term joint support.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly does Comfort Aches work?

Most pets show improvement within 30-60 minutes. It is a fast-acting Blood-moving formula designed for those moments when your dog or cat clearly overdid it and needs help fast, or as directed by your veterinarian.

Can I use Comfort Aches daily?

Yes. Many pets take it daily - especially seniors or dogs with ongoing stiffness. It is safe for long-term use and gentle on the system. Because it supports the body's own processes rather than overriding them, it does not lose effectiveness with continued use, or as directed by your veterinarian.

Can I use this with NSAIDs?

Use caution when combining with NSAIDs or aspirin. Do not use within 24 hours of prescription NSAIDs. The Blood-moving herbs in Comfort Aches can have additive effects with anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications. Always check with your veterinarian before combining Comfort Aches with any prescription medication, or as directed by your veterinarian.

Is this safe for cats?

Yes. Comfort Aches is a multi-species formula. Use the cat-specific dosing above - powder at 1/4 tsp twice daily or tablets at 1/2 tablet twice daily for adult cats, or as directed by your veterinarian.

Will it make my pet sleepy?

No. There are no sedatives or calming herbs in Comfort Aches. Your pet will feel like themselves, just more comfortable and moving more freely, or as directed by your veterinarian.

How is Comfort Aches different from a joint supplement like Sound Dog Viscosity?

Comfort Aches addresses acute discomfort by moving Blood stasis and supporting the body's normal inflammation response - it works quickly and is best for relief. Sound Dog Viscosity nourishes joint fluid and supports the structural integrity of cartilage over time - it is a long-term maintenance supplement. Many pet owners use both: Comfort Aches for relief as needed and Sound Dog Viscosity as the daily foundation for joint health, or as directed by your veterinarian.

Ems Mama
Helps immensely

My dog is a sensitive senior, we have to be careful about overloading her with herbal remedies. Even though Herbsmith is gentle we are using their other remedies for an enhanced effect. My dog is getting the benefit of keeping her arthritic pain managed well enough that she can continue to go on walks.

Hi Ems Mama, thanks so much for leaving us a great review. I am happy to hear your senior pup is feeling comfortable enough for you to take walks together. Such great news! We appreciate your business. Sincerely, Samantha
