Recommended by holistic veterinarians, Jing Tang Lily Combination (Bai He Gu Jin Tang) is a Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) herbal formula that nourishes Yin, moistens the Lung, and supports normal breathing in dogs, cats, and horses. Based on the classical Bai He Gu Jin Tang from Yi Fang Ji Jie (Analytic Collection of Medical Formulas, written by Wang Ang in 1682), this ten-herb formula combines a principal Lung and Kidney Yin-nourishing core (Bai He, Shu Di Huang, Sheng Di Huang, Mai Men Dong, Xuan Shen), Phlegm-transforming and Lung-directing herbs (Zhe Bei Mu, Jie Geng), and Blood-nourishing and harmonizing herbs (Dang Gui, Bai Shao Yao, Gan Cao) to address the dryness and deficiency Heat that arise from Lung and Kidney Yin deficiency. Available in concentrated powder (90g), concentrated capsules (0.5g or 0.2g), standard capsules (0.5g, 200 count), or standard powder (200g or 600g). May be used for up to 6 months. What It Supports

  • Lung and Kidney Yin nourishment: Bai He nourishes Lung Yin and clears Lung Heat as the principal Lung-targeting co-chief; Shu Di Huang powerfully nourishes Kidney and Liver Yin, Jing, and Blood as the Kidney-targeting co-chief; Sheng Di Huang clears Heat, cools Blood, and nourishes Yin to address deficiency Heat; Mai Men Dong nourishes Lung and Stomach Yin and generates fluids; Xuan Shen nourishes Yin and clears Heat; together these five herbs form the formula's principal Yin-nourishing core
  • Lung moistening and normal breathing support: The Yin-nourishing core moistens the Lung and addresses the Lung dryness at the root of impaired respiratory function; Jie Geng opens the Lung, transforms Phlegm, and directs the formula's action upward to the Lung to support normal Lung Qi descending and diffusing; Zhe Bei Mu transforms Phlegm-Heat and moistens the Lung alongside Jie Geng
  • Phlegm transformation: Zhe Bei Mu clears Heat, transforms Phlegm, and moistens the Lung to address Phlegm-Heat that may arise from Lung Yin deficiency with dryness; Jie Geng opens and diffuses Lung Qi, transforms Phlegm, and guides the formula upward to the respiratory tract
  • Blood nourishment: Dang Gui nourishes and invigorates Blood and supports Lung tissue nourishment; Bai Shao Yao nourishes Blood and Yin and softens the Liver; together they address the Blood deficiency that commonly accompanies Yin deficiency patterns and ensure the tissues are well nourished throughout the course of treatment
  • Formula harmonization: Gan Cao tonifies Spleen Qi, moistens the Lung, and harmonizes all ten herbs, moderating the actions of the other herbs and supporting the Spleen's role in generating Qi and Blood to sustain the Yin-nourishing action throughout extended use

Active Ingredient TCVM Actions

Lily Combination (Bai He Gu Jin Tang) is a ten-herb formula organized in three functional layers: a principal Lung and Kidney Yin-nourishing core (Bai He, Shu Di Huang, Sheng Di Huang, Mai Men Dong, Xuan Shen), Phlegm-transforming and Lung-directing deputies (Zhe Bei Mu, Jie Geng), and Blood-nourishing and harmonizing herbs (Dang Gui, Bai Shao Yao, Gan Cao):

  • Bai He (Lilium brownii) - Lily bulb: The Lung-targeting co-chief and formula namesake; nourishes Lung Yin, clears Lung Heat, and moistens the Lung; the primary herb for addressing the Lung Yin deficiency component of the pattern and the anchor of the formula's respiratory-supporting action
  • Shu Di Huang (Rehmannia glutinosa preparata) - Prepared rehmannia root: The Kidney-targeting co-chief; powerfully nourishes Kidney and Liver Yin, Jing, and Blood; addresses the Kidney Yin deficiency at the constitutional root of the pattern and provides the deep nourishment needed for sustained recovery
  • Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia glutinosa) - Raw rehmannia root: Clears Heat, cools Blood, and nourishes Yin; addresses the deficiency Heat arising from Yin deficiency alongside Shu Di Huang and reinforces the principal Yin-nourishing core with its Heat-clearing and Blood-cooling properties
  • Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogon japonicus) - Ophiopogon tuber: Nourishes Lung and Stomach Yin, moistens the Lung, and generates fluids; addresses Lung dryness and deficiency Heat by replenishing fluids in the upper and middle Jiao alongside Bai He
  • Xuan Shen (Scrophularia ningpoensis) - Scrophularia root: Nourishes Yin, clears Heat, softens hardness, and resolves toxins; supports the Yin-nourishing and Heat-clearing action of the formula as the fifth member of the principal Yin-nourishing core
  • Zhe Bei Mu (Fritillaria thunbergii) - Zhejiang fritillaria bulb: Clears Heat, transforms Phlegm, and moistens the Lung; addresses Phlegm-Heat that may arise from Lung Yin deficiency with dryness and helps resolve accumulations in the respiratory tract alongside Jie Geng
  • Jie Geng (Platycodon grandiflorum) - Balloon flower root: Opens and diffuses the Lung, transforms Phlegm, and directs the formula's action upward to the Lung; the formula's ascending and Lung-directing herb, supporting normal respiratory function and Lung Qi descending and diffusing alongside Zhe Bei Mu
  • Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis) - Chinese angelica root: Nourishes and invigorates Blood; addresses the Blood deficiency that commonly accompanies Yin deficiency and supports Lung tissue nourishment alongside Bai Shao Yao
  • Bai Shao Yao (Paeonia lactiflora) - White peony root: Nourishes Blood and Yin and softens the Liver; works with Dang Gui as the formula's principal Blood-nourishing pair, ensuring the tissues remain well nourished as the Yin deficiency resolves over the course of extended treatment
  • Gan Cao (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) - Licorice root: Tonifies Spleen Qi, moistens the Lung, and harmonizes all ten herbs; moderates the actions of the other herbs and supports the Spleen's role in generating Qi and Blood to sustain the formula's Yin-nourishing action throughout extended use of up to 6 months

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions is Lily Combination used for in TCVM?

Lily Combination (Bai He Gu Jin Tang) is indicated in TCVM for Lung and Kidney Yin deficiency patterns where Yin deficiency has led to Lung dryness, deficiency Heat, and impaired respiratory function. Holistic veterinarians commonly recommend it for dogs, cats, and horses showing signs of Lung Yin deficiency, including dry cough, chronic respiratory patterns, or systemic Yin deficiency affecting the Lung, particularly when accompanied by a red, dry tongue with little coat and a thin, rapid pulse. No contraindications are listed for this formula. Your authorizing veterinarian will confirm the appropriate TCVM pattern diagnosis before recommending Lily Combination.

How is Lily Combination administered, and what are the dosing guidelines?

Dosing varies by species and body weight; your authorizing veterinarian will provide specific guidance. For the 90g concentrated powder, the dose for dogs and cats is 0.1g to 0.25g per 10 to 20 lbs of body weight twice daily, or as directed by your veterinarian; the small scoop holds approximately 0.4g. For horses, the standard dose is 3g (approximately 2.5 large scoops) twice daily, or as directed by your veterinarian; the large scoop holds approximately 1.2g. For 0.5g concentrated capsules, the guideline is one capsule per 20 to 40 lbs of body weight twice daily, or as directed by your veterinarian. For 0.2g concentrated capsules, cats and small dogs receive one capsule once daily, or as directed by your veterinarian. Mix concentrated powder directly into wet or dry food at each meal. Capsules can be given directly or hidden in food or a soft treat. Stop administration immediately if the patient develops diarrhea or other unusual signs, and resume only after consulting your veterinarian.

How long can Lily Combination be used?

This formula is recommended for use for up to 6 months, or as directed by your veterinarian. As a Yin-nourishing formula addressing a deficiency pattern, Lily Combination is suited for longer-term use compared to formulas that drain excess patterns; nourishing deep Yin deficiency typically requires sustained treatment over weeks to months. Regular follow-up with your holistic veterinarian is recommended to monitor progress, reassess the TCVM pattern, and adjust dosing as the Yin recovers.

Can Lily Combination be combined with other TCVM formulas or conventional medications?

Lily Combination is sometimes used alongside other TCVM formulas as part of a comprehensive Lung Yin and respiratory support protocol, but your authorizing veterinarian should always guide combination use. If your pet is on prescription medications, particularly respiratory medications or anticoagulants, your veterinarian will evaluate whether Lily Combination is appropriate given your pet's full health picture and current treatment plan. Stop administration immediately if the patient develops diarrhea or other unusual signs, and resume only after consulting your veterinarian.

Amazing!!!!

This product is absolutely amazing!! My poor dog was on steroids for a long period of time because of COPD. As a result of the long-term steroid use, she gained a significant amount of weight, was severely bloated and had horrible flatulence. Her vet recommended this product in combination with a couple other "Jing Tang" supplements. I am so happy and grateful to say, thanks to "Concentrated Lily Combination" along with "Concentrated Breathe Easier B" & "Concentrated Bu Fei San", my baby girl was able to come off the steroids and is breathing so much better now. Unfortunately, these products are rather pricey, but, definitely worth it if you love your fur babies like I love mine.
