Active Ingredient TCVM Actions

Rehmannia 6 is built on a classic three-tonic, three-draining structure. Each herb contributes targeted actions that work together to nourish Kidney Yin while preventing Stagnation:

  • Shu Di Huang (Rehmannia) - Prepared Rehmannia Root: The principal herb; strongly nourishes Yin, Blood, and Essence and tonifies Liver and Kidney as the primary Jing-nourishing herb in this formula.
  • Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus) - Asiatic Cornelian Cherry: Tonifies Liver and Kidney Yin and Yang; stabilizes and binds to prevent leakage of Essence and supports reproductive health.
  • Shan Yao (Dioscorea) - Chinese Yam: Tonifies Spleen, Lung, and Kidney Qi; stabilizes Jing and supports digestive and metabolic function alongside the tonic herbs.
  • Ze Xie (Alisma) - Water Plantain Rhizome: Drains Damp and clears Heat through gentle diuresis; prevents Shu Di Huang from becoming too cloying and supports kidney and bladder function.
  • Fu Ling (Poria) - Poria Mushroom: Drains Damp and strengthens the Spleen; counterbalances Shan Yao and supports fluid metabolism and Shen calm.
  • Mu Dan Pi (Moutan) - Tree Peony Root Bark: Clears Heat and cools Blood; clears deficiency Heat arising from Yin deficiency and counterbalances the warming nature of Shan Zhu Yu.

Potential Drug Interactions

Rehmannia 6 contains Yin-nourishing and Damp-draining herbs, including Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia) and Ze Xie (Alisma), which may affect fluid balance, kidney function, and hepatic metabolism. Pets currently on prescription medications should use this formula under veterinary supervision, as herb-drug interaction research in dogs and cats remains limited.

Medication categories warranting extra caution include diuretics, medications for kidney or liver conditions, immunosuppressive drugs, hormone therapies, and pets managing multiple concurrent prescriptions. Your veterinarian can determine appropriateness based on your pet's condition, current medications, and laboratory results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions is Rehmannia 6 used for in TCVM?

In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, Rehmannia 6 is the foundational formula for Kidney Yin deficiency. It is commonly recommended for dogs, cats, and horses showing signs such as chronic dryness, heat-seeking behavior, restlessness, hindquarter weakness, lumbar discomfort, urinary irregularities, or age-related decline, particularly when accompanied by a thin, rapid pulse and a red, dry tongue.

How is this formula administered to dogs, cats, and horses?

Mix the concentrated powder directly into wet or dry food at each meal using the included double-sided scoop. You can give capsules whole or open them and sprinkle the contents over food. You can hide Teapills in food or a soft treat. Dosing is based on species and body weight; your authorizing veterinarian will confirm the correct dose and schedule for your pet.

How long does it take to see results with Rehmannia 6?

Results vary depending on the severity and chronicity of the condition. Many pet owners begin to notice improvements in energy, hydration, coat quality, and overall comfort within 4 to 8 weeks of consistent use. As a foundational Yin tonic, Rehmannia 6 is often used long-term; your veterinarian will guide reassessment intervals based on your pet's response.

Can Rehmannia 6 be used alongside other TCVM formulas or supplements?

Combining TCVM formulas is common practice in integrative veterinary care, and Rehmannia 6 is frequently used as a base formula alongside more targeted formulas. Combinations should always be done under the guidance of your authorizing veterinarian, who will assess your pet's full TCVM pattern diagnosis and current supplement regimen to determine the most appropriate protocol.

Too expensive

12 cans for over $50.00 dollars is too expensive for the average family with 3 dogs to feed!

The two bottles came on Th. 10/27. We planned ahead for the time lag. Our Dog loves these in a peanutbutter pill pocket!
