What It Supports

  • Wei Qi (defensive Qi) support: Strengthens the body's defensive energy that circulates at the surface to protect against external pathogenic influences and support immune resilience.
  • Qi tonification: Replenishes Qi deficiency to restore energy, vitality, and the body's ability to mount and sustain an immune response.
  • Blood nourishment: Replenishes Blood to support tissue nourishment, immune function, and overall internal balance.
  • Heat clearing and toxin resolution: Clears Heat toxins and supports the body's natural defenses through Heat-clearing herbs alongside the tonifying base.
  • Immune health: Supports long-term immune balance and resilience in pets with Qi and Blood deficiency patterns affecting defensive function.

TCVM Principles

  • Primary action: Tonify Qi and Blood, boost Wei Qi.
  • Contraindication: Do not use in conditions with Excess Heat (acute inflammation or infection, high fever).
  • Classical antecedent: Si Jun Zi Tang from Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang (Imperial Grace Formulary of the Tai Ping Era), written by Chen Shi-Wen et al. in 1080.

Active Ingredient TCVM Actions

Wei Qi Booster combines a Qi and Blood-tonifying base with Heat-clearing, toxin-resolving, and Qi-moving herbs to strengthen defensive energy and support immune resilience:

  • Huang Qi (Astragalus membranaceus), Astragalus root: The chief herb; strongly tonifies Spleen and Lung Qi, raises Wei Qi, and strengthens the body's defensive energy and immune function.
  • Dang Shen (Codonopsis pilosula), Codonopsis root: Tonifies Spleen and Lung Qi, supports energy production, and strengthens the digestive foundation for Qi and Blood generation.
  • Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis), Dong quai root: Nourishes and invigorates Blood, promotes circulation, and supports the Blood component of immune and defensive function.
  • Bai Hua She She Cao (Oldenlandia diffusa), Spreading hedyotis: Clears Heat, resolves toxins, and supports the body's natural immune defenses; a key herb for Heat toxin patterns.
  • Ban Zhi Lian (Scutellaria barbata), Barbat skullcap: Clears Heat, resolves toxins, invigorates Blood, and reduces swelling; works with Bai Hua She She Cao as a classic Heat-toxin-clearing pair.
  • Xuan Shen (Scrophularia ningpoensis), Figwort root: Nourishes Yin, clears Heat, cools Blood, and resolves toxins, supporting the formula's Heat-clearing action while protecting Yin from the tonifying herbs.
  • Chen Pi (Citrus reticulata), Tangerine peel: Regulates Qi, dries Dampness, and prevents the tonifying herbs from causing Qi stagnation or Damp accumulation.
  • Wu Yao (Lindera aggregata), Lindera root: Moves Qi, warms the Kidney, and disperses cold from the lower Jiao, supporting smooth Qi flow through the formula.

Potential Drug Interactions

Wei Qi Booster contains Qi-tonifying and immune-modulating herbs (Huang Qi, Dang Shen) alongside Heat-clearing and Blood-moving herbs (Bai Hua She She Cao, Ban Zhi Lian, Dang Gui) that may interact with certain medications. Pets on prescription medications should use this formula under veterinary supervision, as herb-drug interaction research in dogs and cats remains limited.

Medication categories warranting extra caution include immunosuppressive medications, chemotherapy agents, anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications, and pets managing multiple concurrent prescriptions. Your veterinarian can determine appropriateness based on your pet's condition, current medications, and laboratory results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions is Wei Qi Booster used for in TCVM?

Wei Qi Booster is most commonly recommended for dogs, cats, and horses with TCVM patterns of Qi and Blood deficiency affecting the body's defensive energy and immune resilience. Holistic veterinarians frequently prescribe it for pets with chronic immune weakness, reduced vitality, or susceptibility to illness rooted in Wei Qi deficiency. It is not appropriate for patients with Excess Heat patterns such as acute inflammation, active infection, or high fever. Your veterinarian will confirm whether this formula is appropriate following a TCVM evaluation. Wei Qi Booster is also commonly used alongside Stasis Breaker as part of a comprehensive immune support protocol.

How is Wei Qi Booster administered, and what are the recommended doses?

Dosing varies by species, body weight, and health condition; your authorizing veterinarian will determine the appropriate dose following a TCVM evaluation. For dogs and cats using powder or capsules, the general guideline is 0.5g per 10 to 20 lbs of body weight twice daily. For teapills, the guideline is 1 to 2 pills per 10 lbs of body weight twice daily. For horses, the standard dose is 10 to 20g twice daily as a top dressing on feed. The 600g powder jar includes a double-sided scoop; the large scoop holds approximately 7g, and the small scoop holds approximately 2g.

How long does it take to see results with Wei Qi Booster?

Response time varies depending on the individual pet, the severity of the Qi and Blood deficiency pattern, and the format used. Many pet owners begin to notice improvements in energy, vitality, and immune resilience within 3 to 6 weeks of consistent use. The manufacturer recommends use as needed for up to 6 months. Regular follow-up with your holistic veterinarian is recommended to monitor progress and adjust dosing as needed.

Can Wei Qi Booster be combined with other TCVM formulas or medications?

Wei Qi Booster is frequently used alongside other TCVM formulas, including Stasis Breaker, as part of a comprehensive immune support protocol, but combination use should always be guided by your authorizing veterinarian. If your pet is on prescription medications, particularly immunosuppressants, chemotherapy agents, or anticoagulants, your veterinarian will evaluate whether Wei Qi Booster is appropriate given your pet's full health picture and current treatment plan. Do not use in patients with Excess Heat patterns such as acute inflammation, active infection, or high fever.

Boosts my cat's immune system and easy to dose!

My vet tried to boost my cat's immune system for 8 months, including antibiotics and western treatments, before suggesting this. His neutrophils doubled after the first couple of months on this product! The concentrated powder is by far the easiest to dose for a cat. He takes it easily mixed with a liquid treat.

Michele, thank you for the 5-star review! I'm so glad your cat is feeling better and finds the herbs palatable. Thank you for your willingness to try Jing Tang Wei Qi Booster. Your review will help other patients! Thanks for your business. Sincerely, Samantha

Constant struggle to use

These capsules are huge for a cat. So I need to cut them open (they aren’t normal capsules that can be pulled open) and then there is a little sticky log inside. I have to soak the log for about 30 minutes and keep chopping it up in order to be able to add it to a soft treat. My cat likes the taste so after the process, he takes it OK, but the process is exhausting.

Hi Michele, thank you for sharing your experience with the capsules, and I am sorry it has been such a long process to get the herbs in a better format for your cat. I’m sorry the Jing Tang capsules have been frustrating and difficult to use. The Jing Tang Wei Qi Booster 90g Powder may be a better fit for your cat - it is loose, dry powder in a bottle with a small scoop in it. It is great to hear your cat doesn't mind the taste of the herbs. If your vet didn't authorize substitutions for the Wei Qi capsules on your authorization form, we can reach out to them if you are interested in trying the powder. Our store manager will reach out to you soon. Please let us know if we can assist further. Sincerely, Samantha

Didn’t really have the time for it to work.

Our dog Rooney went out of remission from lymphoma about the same time that we started the Wei Qi. We had to say goodbye to him 4 days later, So I don’t really have an opinion on the booster.
