Jing Tang Lyme Formula Concentrated 90g Powder - TCVM Pet Supply

Jing Tang Max's Formula Chinese Herbal Formula for Dogs, Cats, and Horses

Veterinary Authorization Required for TCVM Herbal Formulas - TCVM Pet Supply

Recommended by holistic veterinarians, Jing Tang Max's Formula is a Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) herbal formula that softens hardness and clears masses in dogs, cats, and horses. Based on the classical Nei Xiao Luo Li San (Medical Innovations, Li Gao, 1115 to 1234), this eight-herb formula combines principal hardness-softening herbs (Mu Li, Xia Ku Cao, Xuan Shen, Zhe Bei Mu) with Heat-clearing and Blood-cooling agents (Da Huang, Tian Hua Fen), a Phlegm-transforming and channel-opening herb (Jie Geng), and a swelling-reducing envoy (Bai Zhi) to address Phlegm-Heat accumulation and hardness patterns contributing to nodule formation and physical stagnation. Available in concentrated powder (90g), concentrated capsules (0.2g or 0.5g), standard powder (200g), or teapills (200 count). May be used as needed for up to 3 months. May also be used with Wei Qi Booster under veterinary guidance. Dosing varies by species and body weight; your authorizing veterinarian will provide specific guidance.

What It Supports

  • Hardness softening and mass clearance: Mu Li, Xia Ku Cao, Xuan Shen, and Zhe Bei Mu form the principal hardness-softening and nodule-dispersing core, supporting the body's natural ability to resolve physical accumulations through combined softening, Phlegm-transforming, and Heat-clearing actions
  • Heat clearance and Blood cooling: Da Huang and Tian Hua Fen clear Liver Fire, cool Blood, and address the Heat accumulation and Blood Stagnation underlying nodule formation and hardness patterns
  • Phlegm transformation and channel opening: Jie Geng transforms Phlegm, opens the Lung, and guides the formula upward to the upper body and channels, supporting resolution of Phlegm-Heat accumulations at the root
  • Immune support: Xia Ku Cao and Da Huang support healthy immune function through their Heat-clearing and toxin-resolving actions, addressing the Phlegm-Heat patterns underlying nodule formation alongside the formula's hardness-softening core

Active Ingredient TCVM Actions

Max's Formula is an eight-herb formula organized in four functional layers: a principal hardness-softening and nodule-dispersing group (Mu Li, Xia Ku Cao, Xuan Shen, Zhe Bei Mu), Heat-clearing and Blood-cooling deputies (Da Huang, Tian Hua Fen), a Phlegm-transforming and channel-opening herb (Jie Geng), and a swelling-reducing envoy (Bai Zhi):

  • Mu Li - Shu (Ostrea gigas) - Calcined oyster shell: The principal chief and primary hardness-softening herb; softens hardness and dissipates nodules, anchors Yang, and addresses Phlegm-Heat accumulation as the cornerstone of the formula's hardness-softening and mass-clearing action
  • Xia Ku Cao (Prunella vulgaris) - Self-heal spike: Clears Liver Fire and dissipates nodules; softens hardness and addresses nodule formation associated with Liver Fire and Phlegm-Heat accumulation as the second principal hardness-softening and nodule-dispersing herb alongside Mu Li
  • Xuan Shen (Scrophularia ningpoensis) - Figwort root: Clears Heat and cools Blood; nourishes Yin and softens hardness, addressing the Yin deficiency and Blood Heat that can accompany chronic Phlegm-Heat accumulation and nodule formation as the third hardness-softening herb
  • Zhe Bei Mu (Fritillaria thunbergii) - Zhejiang fritillaria bulb: Clears Heat and transforms Phlegm; dissipates nodules and works with Mu Li and Xia Ku Cao as the fourth member of the principal hardness-softening and nodule-dispersing group, providing the formula's primary Phlegm-dissolving action within the softening layer
  • Da Huang (Rheum palmatum) - Chinese rhubarb root: Clears Heat and purges accumulation; invigorates Blood and removes Stagnation as the principal Heat-clearing and Blood-moving deputy, addressing the Heat and Blood Stagnation underlying nodule formation; its strong purgative action is the basis for the diarrhea warning associated with this formula
  • Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthes kirilowii) - Trichosanthes root: Clears Heat and promotes body fluids; reduces swelling and addresses Heat accumulation and fluid depletion associated with chronic Phlegm-Heat nodule patterns as the second Heat-clearing deputy alongside Da Huang
  • Jie Geng (Platycodon grandiflorus) - Balloon flower root: Opens the Lung and transforms Phlegm; guides the formula's action upward to the upper body and addresses Phlegm accumulation in the channels and collaterals, acting as the formula's Phlegm-transforming and channel-opening herb
  • Bai Zhi (Angelica dahurica) - Dahurian angelica root: Disperses Wind and reduces swelling; addresses localized swelling and fullness associated with nodule formation and physical stagnation, guiding the formula's action to the affected area as the swelling-reducing envoy

Potential Drug Interactions

Max's Formula contains potent Heat-clearing and Blood-invigorating herbs, including Da Huang (Chinese rhubarb root) and Xia Ku Cao (self-heal spike), which may affect hepatic drug metabolism, platelet function, coagulation, and immune function. Pets on prescription medications should use this formula under veterinary supervision, as herb-drug interaction research in dogs, cats, and horses remains limited.

Medication categories warranting extra caution include anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications, corticosteroids or immunosuppressive drugs, chemotherapy agents, NSAIDs, cardiac medications, thyroid medications, and pets managing multiple concurrent prescriptions. Stop administration immediately if the patient develops diarrhea, vomiting, or other unusual signs, and resume only after consulting your veterinarian. Your veterinarian can determine appropriateness based on your pet's condition, current medications, and laboratory results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions is Max's Formula used for in TCVM?

Max's Formula is indicated in TCVM for Phlegm-Heat accumulation and hardness patterns contributing to nodule formation and physical stagnation. Holistic veterinarians commonly recommend it for dogs, cats, and horses showing signs of subcutaneous nodules, lymph node enlargement, or other physical accumulations associated with Phlegm-Heat and Liver Fire, particularly when accompanied by a red or purple tongue with a greasy coat and a wiry, slippery pulse. Your authorizing veterinarian will confirm the appropriate TCVM pattern diagnosis before recommending this formula.

How is Max's Formula administered, and what are the dosing guidelines?

Dosing varies by species and body weight; your authorizing veterinarian will provide specific guidance. For the 90g concentrated powder, the dose for dogs and cats is 0.1g to 0.25g per 10 to 20 lbs of body weight twice daily, or as directed by your veterinarian; the small scoop holds approximately 0.3g. For horses, the standard dose is 3g (approximately 2.5 large scoops) twice daily, or as directed by your veterinarian; the large scoop holds approximately 1.2g. For 0.5g concentrated capsules, the guideline is one capsule per 20 to 40 lbs of body weight twice daily, or as directed by your veterinarian; for small dogs and cats under 10 lbs, one 0.2g capsule once daily, or as directed by your veterinarian. Mix the concentrated powder directly into wet or dry food at each meal. Capsules can be given directly or hidden in food. Teapills can be hidden in food or a soft treat. Stop administration immediately if diarrhea, vomiting, or other unusual signs develop, and resume only after consulting your veterinarian.

Can Max's Formula be used with Wei Qi Booster?

Yes, Max's Formula may be used in combination with Wei Qi Booster under veterinary guidance. Wei Qi Booster supports the body's defensive Qi and immune function, while Max's Formula addresses the Phlegm-Heat accumulation and hardness patterns underlying nodule formation. Your authorizing veterinarian will determine whether this combination is appropriate for your pet's specific TCVM pattern and will guide dosing and monitoring for both formulas.

How long does it take to see results with Max's Formula?

Nodule and hardness patterns are typically chronic and slow to resolve, and results vary depending on the severity and duration of the underlying Phlegm-Heat accumulation. Many pet owners begin to notice changes within 4 to 8 weeks of consistent use. This formula is recommended for up to 3 months, or as directed by your veterinarian; your veterinarian will guide reassessment intervals based on your pet's response and clinical findings.
