Dog Allergies 101 Ebook: How to Stop the Itching, Scratching, Licking and Painful Vet Bills

Make sense of the itching, scratching, and licking, and feel more prepared to support your dog. Dog Allergies 101 is a free PET | TAO ebook by Marc Smith, DVM, and Casey Damron, DVM, introducing common allergy concerns, food trials, environmental triggers, and veterinary care options.

When your dog keeps chewing their paws or dealing with recurring skin and ear concerns, it can be hard to know what to ask next. This guide helps you organize the possibilities and explore how nutrition, everyday care, and veterinary treatment fit into a broader management conversation.

What’s Inside

  • Allergy-related concerns: Discussion of itching, licking, skin changes, ear concerns, sneezing, and other signs covered in the guide.
  • Food and environmental triggers: An introduction to food allergies, seasonal concerns, flea allergies, and potential household allergens.
  • Food trial basics: Discussion of novel-protein and hydrolyzed diets, treats, and the challenges of keeping a diet trial consistent.
  • Other causes of skin problems: Sections on infections, ringworm, and mites, highlighting why similar signs need veterinary assessment.
  • Everyday care topics: Ideas about bedding, grooming, bathing, and environmental management to discuss with your veterinarian.
  • Treatment and support options: Overviews of topical care, antihistamines, other medications, immunotherapy, and fatty acid supplements.

A Clearer Starting Point for Your Dog’s Care

Use this guide to prepare questions about your dog’s food, environment, skin care, and treatment options. Noting when concerns occur and what your dog eats can help you bring a more useful picture to your veterinary visit.

Published in 2019, the ebook includes specific medication doses, diet-trial instructions, and home-care recommendations. Use it as background reading, not a current treatment protocol or a way to diagnose allergies yourself. Your veterinarian can assess other possible causes and review recommendations for your dog before you change food, medications, supplements, or topical products.

This educational resource does not replace individualized veterinary care or guarantee that itching will stop. Persistent skin, ear, eye, or digestive concerns deserve veterinary assessment. Seek urgent veterinary care for breathing difficulty or sudden severe illness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will I learn from Dog Allergies 101?

The ebook explores food, environmental, and flea allergy concerns, other causes of skin problems, food trials, everyday care, and veterinary treatment options. It provides background to help you organize questions for your veterinarian.

Does the ebook discuss food trials?

Yes. It discusses novel-protein and hydrolyzed diets, consistency during a trial, and how treats or other foods can complicate the process. Have your veterinarian design and oversee a trial appropriate for your dog rather than changing foods at random.

Can I use it to diagnose allergies or choose medication?

No. Similar signs can have different causes, and the ebook’s 2019 treatment details require review against current veterinary guidance. Do not use its doses as instructions or start, stop, or change treatment without your veterinarian’s direction.

How do I receive my free copy?

Add the ebook to your cart at no charge and complete checkout to receive the 37-page PDF download. This is a digital resource, not a printed book, so no physical item will be shipped.

DOG ALLERGIES

I thought this book would provide TCVM methods, but it seemed more like traditional veterinary methods using drugs.

Nothing worked

I have a Newfoundland that lost her entire coat twice. She has always been raw fed, not on any pesticides, I used every supplement known to man, tried cooling foods, baths. Literally NOTHING worked.
Had her skin allergy tested(after her blood allergy screen)
Finally makes sense
But I have had to use traditional medicine to keep her from self harm. This is working and she’s on immunotherapy shots as well.
As much as I wanted all natural to work I had a dog what lost 20lbs, was bloody every day until I saw a dermatologist.
