In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), the recommendation of turkey aligns with Eastern Food Therapy principles. According to TCVM, different foods have distinct energetic properties that can affect the body's balance of Qi (energy).
Turkey is also energetically balancing and has properties for supporting the body's overall well-being. In the context of TCVM, the emphasis is on maintaining a harmonious balance of energy in the body to promote health and prevent imbalances that may contribute to allergies.
Here's how each main ingredient helps from an Eastern perspective:
Western veterinary medicine often recommends turkey for dogs with allergies because it's less likely to cause a reaction than other proteins. While any protein can potentially trigger allergies in some dogs, turkey is generally less allergenic than other meats. This may be due to its unique protein structure or lower histamine content, making it a safer option for dogs prone to allergies.
The main ingredients include turkey, carrots, celery, green beans, broccoli, and spinach. These ingredients are carefully selected to minimize allergic reactions and support the body's balance of energy according to Eastern Food Therapy principles, as well as to provide essential nutrients from a Western nutritional science perspective.
The formula is designed to address underlying imbalances contributing to allergic reactions while supporting the body's natural ability to heal and maintain balance. Ingredients like turkey provide readily digestible protein, while carrots, celery, green beans, broccoli, and spinach offer various benefits, such as reducing inflammation, supporting immune function, and promoting digestive health.
Turkey is selected as the primary protein because it is less likely to trigger allergic reactions compared to other common proteins like beef or chicken. It is also considered energetically balancing in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), nourishing vital energy and supporting overall health and immunity.
Yes, each ingredient has specific benefits according to Eastern Food Therapy principles. For example, turkey nourishes the spleen and stomach meridians, carrots regulate Qi circulation and soothe Liver Qi stagnation, celery clears heat from the body, green beans support the digestive system and fluid metabolism, broccoli clears heat and toxins, and spinach nourishes Yin, Blood, and fluids while clearing heat and detoxifying the body.
This formula differs from traditional Western dog food formulas in that it incorporates principles of Eastern Food Therapy to address imbalances contributing to allergic reactions. It also uses ingredients like turkey, carrots, celery, green beans, broccoli, and spinach, selected for their specific benefits in promoting overall health and alleviating allergy symptoms from both Eastern and Western perspectives.

Are all the Pet Tao formulas considered a full diet or a supplement! I am feeding my Dog Chill but I think I need to try the Harmony Limited Ingredient as my Dog has horrible allergies. Any other suggestions for allergies?
Thank you for your question! Our vets have not experienced issues feeding all 4 PET | TAO canned formulas as full diets, but since two of them haven't been AAFCO approved for all life stages, those are labeled for intermittent/supplemental feeding only (this applies to Zing and Chill). Hi there, Judith! Yes, we can ship to Alaska! However, we are unable to provide free shipping with a $99 purchase to Alaska.
Hi, The Harmony canned food has 412 kcal/can and suggested amount per day for my dogs weight (45#) is 3 cans. The freeze dried Harmony food has 219 kcal/cup and the suggested feeding amount is 2 2/3 cup to 3 cups a day. 1236 kcal (412 x 3) vs. 657 kcal (219 x 3) is a big calorie difference. Do I need to feed more of the freeze dried than what's listed for a complete meal? Thanks!!
Thank you for your question!
There is a wide range in calorie recommendations for dogs: 1x Resting Energy Rate (RER) up to 2xRER. Part of the reason for the variance on the Freeze Dried food recommendation is there is air in each cup of food (between the nuggets). There isn't air when measuring calories in a cup of wet food. We recommend starting by feeding within the range on the label and adjusting as needed (by monitoring your dog's weight and body condition). The amount of food a dog needs is based on individual characteristics such as age, activity, whether they are spayed/neutered, etc.
