QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Hi there! We’ve recently rescued a French bulldog, and although I know they snort and snore, she sometimes seems stuffed up and both of her eyes run, creating dark stains in the folds on her face. Would this be a good product to try for her? She is about 2 years old.

Thank you for your question! We have a couple products that may help you and your bulldog!

One of them is Vet Classics Tear Stain Soft Chews, which help by diminishing the rust color produced with the increased production and leakage of tears onto the hair adjacent to the eyelid. Excessive tear staining may be caused by a multitude of issues including allergies, eyelid confirmation, everted hairs, a small nasolacrimal duct or a combination of these issues. In essence, this product only addresses the discoloration produced by the tears not the overall root of the problem as the root may be multifactorial and not confined to one specific issue.

Also, make sure no hairs contact the eye itself which may require trimming. Controlling allergies or exposure to allergens is important as well. If the drainage duct is too small, then correction may require professional help. However, this product has helped many small dogs with the unsightly rust color that appears from the excess tears.

If the problem is primarily an allergy, then PET | TAO Complement Immune or Vet Classics Allergy Skin and Coat Soft Chews #90 would likely satisfy your needs and not require the tear stain chews as well,  but using both an allergy supplement and the tear stain supplement would be best.
