K9 Select brand lignans are tasty peanut butter flavored tablets that your dog will love! Like our Lignans for Life HMR lignans, our K9 Select lignans are sourced from the same Norwegian spruce tree knots. HMR is short for hydroxymatairesinol, which is metabolized in the body into a powerful antioxidant that prevents or limits oxidative stress throughout the body and supports the immune system. Many studies indicate that high amounts of lignans in the body may reduce cortisol and other hormone levels and promote healthy reproductive organs.

Lignans Health Benefits

Lignans are excellent for balancing hormone levels in the body. Specifically, lignans have been shown to reduce cortisol and other adrenal steroids and to exert anti-estrogenic effects. Such anti-estrogenic effects include the prevention of naturally occurring hormones from binding to estrogen receptors and exerting their negative effects. Lignans provide a weaker form of estrogen. Thus, they are believed to be helpful in balancing out both estrogen deficiencies (by supplying phytoestrogens to otherwise inactive receptors) and excesses (through at least two separate mechanisms – first, by competing with much stronger estrogen for the same receptors and second, by inhibiting aromatase activity). Further reading here.*

Research

Lignans are converted in the body into the mammalian lignans (enterolignans) enterodiol and enterolactone. Enterolignans have been shown to be potent antioxidants. They reduce the free radicals that otherwise damage tissues, membrane lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins, and may lead to diseases or premature aging. Enterolignans also stimulate the synthesis of sex hormone binding globulin, effectively binding sex hormones and thereby reducing their circulation in the blood stream and thus their biological activity.

Some studies have indicated improved hair growth.

Lignans Dosages & Directions

Give 1-2 mg of lignan for each pound of body weight.

Tablets can be taken at once or broke into halves or quarters and taken throughout the day.

Note: Always consult your veterinarian when trying new supplements.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Do these two products need to be taken together?

Hi, thank you for your question!

Lignans for dogs are an excellent choice for easing the symptoms of Cushing’s disease.

Our TCVM vets recommend Lignans and Melatonin as remedies for many dogs suffering from Cushing’s.

However, we recommend you always check with your vet when adding pet supplements.

Helps with my dogs Cushing

This combined with the melatonin supplements has cut back his hunger and bringing. We may need to switch to a vet prescription at some point but these supplements along with a low fat diet it helping to slow the fishing’s progression.

Lignan review

These are really helping my mini schnauzer with his cushings. New blood tests results show progress with areas coming down. Next blood test is in two weeks. Anxious to see if better. I suspect it will be. He’s now sleeping through most nights and drinking less water. Thank you. I wouldve given a 5 but I either have to poke down his throat or crush. He doesn’t like the taste.
