Hello, we just got the Shen Calmer concentreted 100-0.5g caps. We have a 21 yr. old Papillon who has anxiety especially at night pacing and whining. He also has heart disease. How much is the dose for aprox. `15lb. dog? (the bottle shows 1 twice a day for a 20-40lbs dog) Thank you.
Thank you for your question! I'm so sorry your dog is dealing with anxiety.
For the Shen Calmer Concentrated products, the manufacturer recommends 0.1g to 0.25g per 10 to 20lbs twice daily.
Please check with your vet to see what dose in that range they think would help your pet best. Since your vet knows your dog and his individual characteristics, they'll be able to further advise you on the dose.
Heart Treats and Cooling food can also support dogs with anxiety.

What is the typical daily dosage for a 16# Jack Russell Terrier? Capsules are 0.5 g each Thank you!
Thank you for your question! The dosing range for concentrated 0.5g capsules #100 is 0.5g per 10-20lb twice daily for dogs/cats. Your vet can help you decide what dose in that range is best for your pet. To request authorization, go here.
I'm bringing an 8-week old puppy home on a plane. The puppy will weigh approx 7lbs. The flight is 5 1/2 hours. Is Shen Calmer something I could use to soothe him and if so at what dose? Also, how might I administer? Our acupuncturist/vet used to bring the biscuits, but I understand they are no longer available. Is this product something I might use or should I use something else? Thank you!
Thank you for your question! You may use Shen Calmer with approval from your vet, but please know sometimes herbs can take a month to start working since they are a gentler form of treatment than drugs. If your trip is coming up soon we recommend checking with your vet to learn about all of your options.

Hello, what is the likelihood of a dog developing diarrhea as a side effect of taking Jing Tang Shen Calmer 0.5mg twice a day?
Thank you for your question! While some side effects upon starting the herbs are possible, our vets do not observe this in most cases. A great way to decrease the chance of stomach irritation is starting at the lowest dose in the dosing range and increasing from there. Some pet owners and vets decide to try herbs because the potential benefits outweigh the mild side effects.
My cocker spaniel is 15.5 yrs. old. She has already lost about 7 pounds over the past year, down to about 19 lbs. She is no longer good traveling in a car and she paces at home constantly. Our vet recommended the shen calmer and she has been taking it for about 5 days. She is showing a decrease in appetite. She can’t afford to lose more weight. Is this a possible side effect of the medicine?
Thanks for your question, and I'm sorry to hear your Cocker Spaniel is struggling with anxiety. The only known side effects of Jing Tang herbals are mild gastrointestinal distress or diarrhea. These side effects usually resolve on their own in a few days, and most vets recommend continuing to administer the herbs throughout this period. Please check with your vet to see what they recommend for your Cocker Spaniel, as your vet knows your pet and their individual constitution and characteristics the best. Thank you for supporting Chinese Medicine and trying Shen Calmer!

Having just got the pills 5 days ago, its a little early to know if they will provide the calming effect i need in my dog to allow me to trim his toe nails.
My large, rambunctious dog has been on these capsules for several weeks now, and I have yet to see significant results. He sleeps more, but still gets crazy too often! Hoping there may yet be some good results!
This has helped my reactive dog become a completely different dog. He listens much better, I can invite friends in the house and it's much more peaceable. Even our guests have noticed a big change. Thank you!
