QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • My senior dog has arthritis and laryngeal paralysis. We have been taking him for acupuncture. I believ in TCM. he tends to put on weight. He likes the cold floor to sleep on. But for half of the night he sleeps on the bed. His arthritis worsens on rainy and cold days. His breathing problems worsen on hot days. We have given him the body sores, that helped with pain, but I think he needs something for internal healing of the whole system, Can you please recommend something. Thank you.

    Thank you for your question!

There are a variety of different herbs that can help support dogs with arthritis, joint pain, and breathing issues such as Hindquarter Weakness, Dok's Formula, Di Gu Pi, Su Zi Jiang Qi, and more.

Sometimes, dogs can have similar symptoms of pain, but their Eastern diagnosis is different, meaning the underlying imbalance causing the pain is different for each dog.

The Eastern diagnosis is based on tongue and pulse. The herbs are designed to fit a specific presentation of tongue and pulse, so it's likely your vet chose specific acupuncture points based on your dog's Eastern diagnosis. For example - your dog may have Kidney Qi and Yin Deficiency causing soreness, while a dog with Kidney Qi and Yang deficiency has soreness as well, but was recommended Dok's Formula by their vet.

If you have questions about your pet's Eastern diagnosis, you may want to confirm the recommended formulas with your vet who provides the acupuncture. They will be able to look back at the records of the exam they performed and help you further. Ask them if your pet needs a warming or cooling diet based on their Eastern diganosis - we have food for both.  PET | TAO Pork Lung treats can support breathing based on the Five-Element Theory. PET | TAO Harmonize Joint supports dogs with arthritis as well. Another product that can help support dogs with soreness is PET | TAO Comfort.

  • My vet’s office ran out of the 50 count bottles and sold us the 100 count not realizing that the 100 count was a higher dosage. I realized the error when my 12lb dog developed diarrhea. They are telling me to just break the capsule in half, is that right? How do I ensure the blend is exactly 50/50 in each half?

Thank you for your question! We agree with your vet - the best course of action in your case is to open each capsule and split the powder in half to the best of your ability. It is unlikely there will be any negative effects if the blend is not split exactly 50/50. Thanks for supporting Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine!

  • I might have accidentally submitted this twice, but how much should I give my dog? You guys know more about this than my veterinarian! Thank you for your help!

Thank you for your question! The manufacturer's dosing range for Di Gu Pi San Concentrated 0.5g Capsules #100 is one 0.5g capsule per 20 to 40 lb of body weight twice daily. Since this is a range and not an exact dose, your vet should give you a specific dose based on your pet's condition and individual characteristics. If your vet needs assistance determining a dose, they can contact the Chi Institute for help on your specific case. Thank you for supporting Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine!

  • R there any medications she can't be on while taking this ?

Thank you for your question! Our vets haven't experienced any problems in patients who take Jing Tang herbs along with other medicines. However, we recommend you check with your vet, since they are the expert in your pet's individual case.
